The supreme court, of the corporate United states, decides Hepburn v. Griswold, declaring the Legal Tender Act of 1862 and the irredeemable fiat (Latin for “let it become”) currency it authorized to be unlawful.

       NOTE: Salmon P. Chase, Chief Justice of the United states, voted against the LTA of 1862, an act that he enforced as Secretary of the Treasury.
