Former Brigadier General George Washington Gordon, of the Army of the Confederate States, at the Maxwell House, in Nashville, Tennessee, calls to order the first regional meeting of the Ku Klux Klan, to reorganize the KKK from a loose association of local social clubs into a unified political organization, directly opposed to Republican (nationalist) leadership and racial equality.
