Major General Lewis Wallace, of the Army of the united States, convenes the military tribunal hearing the case of Major Henry Wirz, former commander of the  Confederate prisoner of war camp, at Andersonville, Georgia.  Of the 49,485 compulsory Union prisoners of war who entered the camp, nearly 13,000 died from disease and starvation.
