The Sioux uprising ends at the Battle of Wood Lake: Major General John Pope, commanding the compulsory Union Department of the Northwest and four regiments of the Minnesota Militia, defeats the Santee Sioux, commanded by Little Crow.  Seventy-seven Soldiers and Militiamen, and between 400 and 800 settlers, and 70 to 100 Sioux warriors lost their lives during the five week uprising.
