Independent Democrat (constitutionalist) President Tyler signs the Uniform Election Act, setting a Union-wide date of the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November, for the election of members of the House of Representatives. The Act also requires the States to divide themselves into “winner take all” electoral districts for representation in the House.
NOTE: This Act, more than any other, is probably responsible for our present-day duopoly of the Democratic and Republican (status quo) Parties.
