After 36 public (American) ballots in the House of Representatives Republican (constitutionalist) Vice President Thomas Jefferson is elected President of the united States with 10 out of 15 votes. Runner-up Republican former Senator Aaron Burr, of New York, becomes Vice President, with four votes. Also, two States abstained.
