In preparation for war against the Republic of France, Federalist (nationalist) President John Adams signs the Alien Friends Act, allowing the President to imprison and deport foreigners, from nations that the united States has diplomatic relations with, who are deemed “dangerous to the peace and safety of the [u]nited States.”
