An angry mob in Paris, France breaks and burns the printing press, plates and paper used to produce Assignat currency (Bills of Credit).  Within six years what had originally started out as an initial issue of 400,000,000 irredeemable paper Assignats (tied to the value of confiscated Roman Catholic (state) Church lands had been inflated by a factor of 125 without an accompanying increase in productivity.
