The Reign of Terror ends—10 Thermidor Year II: Member Maximilien Robespierre, of the Committee of Public Safety of the republic of France, is executed on the guillotine.
NOTE: Ordinarily victims were placed into the guillotine face down. But Robespierre was placed on his back so he could see the blade falling down upon him.
