The Battle of Combahee River (South Carolina): Major William Brereton, commanding 150 regulars of the Army of Great Britain, defeats 200 regulars of the Southern Department of the Continental Army, commanded by Brigadier General Mordecai Gist.

       NOTE: This was the last fighting between British and American forces in the first American Revolution.
