Ann Lee, along with her 15 Shaker disciples, are jailed—without Trial by Jury—by the Albany County, New York Circuit Court for pacifism (refusing to aid New York in the first American Revolution).

Postscript: They were held for nearly five months before being released.

Anti-war protestors must have Due Process, or none of us have any right to justice.  Force should be limited to self-defense, and not phony self-defense after an arranged incident.  Of course, some will say that the Quakers, whose sect had been persecuted in Catholic England, had the most to gain from a republican, secular, government; but that republic had yet to be defined, and the Bill of Rights had yet to be written. –– JL
