The Battle of Flamborough Head (North Sea): Captain John Paul Jones, commanding the USS Bonhomme Richard, defeats HMSs Serapis and Countess of Scarborough, commanded by Captain Richard Pearson.

       NOTE: The Bonhomme Richard was so badly damaged that Jones transferred his command to the Serapis.
