The First Battle of Saratoga (New York): Major General Horatio L. Gates, commanding 7,000 regulars of the Continental Army, fights to a draw against Major General John Burgoyne, commanding 6,000 regulars of the Army of Great Britain. The outcome buoys the spirits of the CA for having held their own against one of the fiercest fighting forces in the world.
