New York City merchants agree not to sell any British made goods until the Stamp Act is repealed.
Postscript: The pact touches off four days of street demonstrations against the SA. On the last day 2,000 subjects attack the home of Royal Governor Cadwallader Colden, setting two sleighs and a carriage ablaze. Within the next three weeks, demonstrations take place in Portsmouth, New Hampshire; Annapolis, Maryland; Wilmington and New Bern, North Carolina; and Charleston, South Carolina. And twelve of the 13 colonial stamp distributors had resigned. The only one who had not was Georgia’s, who had not yet arrived in the colony. When he did arrive two months later, his first official act was to resign.
