Boston, Massachusetts subjects upset with the Stamp Act, hang in effigy, Andrew Oliver, the local administrator for the Stamp Tax.  Later the mob destroys Oliver’s office, and then loots and burns his home.

       Postscripts:

  • The mob eventually adopted the name “Sons of Liberty.”
  • The tree from which the effigy was hung eventually came to be called the “Liberty Tree”).
