The (world) War of the League of Augsburg ends with the signing of the last of the six Treaties of Ryswick:

• France returns Alsace-Lorraine to the Holy Roman Empire;
• The French occupied districts of Kortrijk, Luxembourg and Mons are returned to the Spanish Netherlands (Belgium);
• France agrees to withdraw its support of the exiled James II (a Catholic, r. 1685 – 1688);
• France resumes control of Acadia (Nova Scotia/New Scotland) and the Indian province of Pondichery;
• The French occupied districts of Breisach, Freiburg and Philippsburg are returned to the “Holy Roman Empire”; and
• French occupied Catalonia is returned to Spain.
