Edward IV (r. 1461 – 1470; 1471 – 1483) dies. The crown now passes to son his Edward, Prince of Wales (r. 1483). Because Edward is 12-years-old, Edward’s uncle, Richard of Northamptonshire, Duke of Gloucester (r. 1483 – 1485) assumes the role of Lord Protector, acting as king until Edward comes of age.
