Edward “Longshanks” I (r. 1272 – 1307) issues the Edict of Expulsion, ordering Jews to leave his realm. Prior to this, Jews were direct subjects of the Crown, not under the authority of the (land) lords: Jews were not entitled to any of the protections of Magna Carta; the Crown could legally impose taxes on them without the consent of Parliament.
